The Purpose Built Stories Manifesto

This was created bat lead off on our agency website ideasandstorytelling.com. Using decades of portfolio work from the company archives I created an eclectic visual collage to accompany the “Purpose Built Story Manifesto”.

A certified Purpose-Built Story:

Bears the craftsmanship of its proud author

A Purpose-Built Story is unique to its owner and should be recognizable by its style yet humble with its signature.

Knows its audience and connects on an emotional level

A Purpose-Built Story isn’t intended for everyone. It’s carefully crafted for a special someone.

Has a point of view

Without a perspective, it’s not art, nor it is a statement. It’s patter.

Isn’t afraid to get lost along the way to discovery

Worthwhile invention seldom happens on a well-traveled path.

Never takes the path of least resistance

Deadlines breed temptation for shortcuts destined to create forgettable tales.

Engages its audience by making them always wonder what happens next?

Imagine your audience is a gaggle of eight-year-olds who’ll jump at the first hint of phoniness.

Takes an idea and communicates it in a new way

Somewhere, right now, someone is imagining a new way to express love.

Has a knack for making the seemingly mundane seem magical

To the insatiably curious, no moment is small and no instance is routine.

Understands the value of patience

Nature’s petals open at unscheduled times.

Inspires action

Herein lies the responsibility. The power to enrapture has both brilliant and dark paths.

Can withstand criticism and is always ready for a good fight

Powered by undying belief, Purpose-Built stories expect to be questioned, challenged, and attacked by well-intentioned allies and foes alike.

Doesn’t give in to the petty needs of the masses

Purpose-Built Stories and Publicity diverge at the crossroads of character.

Tends to get even better with age

The Purpose-Built Story can and should be enjoyed long after its freshness date.
